Punta Cana Packing List: What to Bring and What to Leave
Most people overpack for Punta Cana and still forget the two things that matter: their medicine and a rain layer.
The climate is hot, humid and occasionally wet; the resorts provide towels and basics; the excursions need proper shoes. Pack for that, keep the essentials in your carry-on, and leave the jewellery at home.
Documents and travel information
- Passport and any required visa documents.
- Flight, hotel and transfer confirmations.
- Dominican E Ticket QR code when required.
- Insurance details and emergency contacts.
- Copies stored securely online and offline.
Clothing for tropical conditions
Pack breathable daytime clothing, swimwear, a cover up, comfortable walking shoes, secure water shoes and a light layer for air conditioned spaces. Check the hotel dress policy for restaurants and evening venues.
Sun and rain preparation
Bring broad spectrum sun protection, a hat, sunglasses and a refillable bottle. Tropical showers can arrive quickly, so include a compact rain layer and a water resistant bag for electronics.
Excursion items
The right equipment depends on the activity. Boat trips benefit from a dry bag and secure footwear. Buggy tours can be dusty and muddy, so use closed shoes, eye protection and clothing that can get dirty. Adventure parks may require strong grip footwear.
Health and personal care
Bring prescribed medicine in original packaging, enough for delays, plus basic items normally used. Include insect repellent, after sun care and any allergy medicine advised by a clinician. Keep essential medicine in cabin baggage.
Technology
Pack charging cables, a power bank allowed by the airline, an adapter when needed and waterproof protection. Save offline maps, reservations and important contacts. Review the WiFi and eSIM guide before travel.
What not to overpack
Most resorts provide towels and basic toiletries, but the exact list varies. Confirm before carrying bulky items. Leave expensive jewellery and unnecessary valuables at home.
Final cabin bag
Keep documents, medicine, valuables, one change of clothes, swimwear and basic toiletries in the cabin bag. This protects the first day if checked baggage is delayed.
