Boca Chica Beach: Santo Domingo's Beach, Not Punta Cana's

By PuntaCana·Jan 22, 2026·3 min read

Boca Chica is the capital's beach. It sits about 30 km east of Santo Domingo and only minutes from Las Américas airport (SDQ), which makes it the obvious stop if you fly into Santo Domingo or have a day in the city. From Punta Cana it is a long way west, and there are far better beaches on your doorstep.

What it does well: a reef-sheltered lagoon so shallow and calm that small children can wade out a long way, and a row of fried-fish shacks right on the sand.

Playa Boca Chica is situated in Boca Chica town within Santo Domingo Province, approximately 30 kilometers east of Santo Domingo. Nearby areas include La Caleta, Juan Dolio, and Guayacanes, all popular coastal destinations along the south coast.
