The cheapest flight to "Punta Cana" is sometimes not to Punta Cana at all. Comparison sites happily show Santo Domingo or La Romana, and the savings vanish on a long road transfer.
Beyond that, the usual advice applies with more force here than most places: compare the whole fare including bags, do not land at 9 p.m. with a 7 a.m. tour booked, and sort the airport transfer before you leave home.
Start with the right airport
Punta Cana International Airport uses the code PUJ. Confirm that the itinerary ends at PUJ before paying, especially when a comparison site also shows airports in Santo Domingo, La Romana or Santiago. A cheaper fare to another city can create a long ground journey and may not be a practical substitute.
Compare the complete trip, not only the headline price
Review baggage, seat selection, connection time, airport changes, overnight stops and change conditions. A fare that includes the bags you need can cost less than a basic fare after extras are added. When travelling with children or a group, compare the total for every passenger before choosing.
- Check the operating airline, not only the company selling the ticket.
- Allow comfortable connection time for immigration, security and terminal changes.
- Confirm whether checked baggage must be collected and rechecked during a connection.
- Read cancellation and change conditions before payment.
- Make sure names match the travel documents exactly.
Choose dates with the whole holiday in mind
Compare flights one or two days around the preferred dates. A small change can improve the fare or remove an inconvenient connection. Also compare hotel nights, airport transfer hours and the first planned excursion. A late arrival followed by an early tour can make the first day unnecessarily tiring.
Prepare for arrival at PUJ
Complete the official Dominican E Ticket when required, save the QR code, and keep your hotel name and transfer confirmation available offline. After collecting baggage, follow the provider instructions instead of accepting an unverified offer from someone who cannot show your booking details.
Read the entry and E Ticket guide and plan the airport transfer before departure.
Plan the return journey
Confirm the pickup time with the transfer provider and allow for traffic, airline check in, baggage and security. International departure requirements can change, so follow the airline and airport instructions shown close to travel.

Frequently asked questions
Should I book a return ticket?
Choose the itinerary that matches the entry rules and your travel plan. A return booking is often simpler, but separate tickets may work when their risks and change conditions are understood.
