Touchdown in Paradise: Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
We’ve just arrived in the Dominican Republic, and the excitement is already sky-high. After landing late last night, we woke up early, ready to explore the local golf scene and wow, did Punta Cana deliver.
Our first stop: the Punta Cana golf course at Macana Club. From the moment we arrived, it was clear this was going to be a special trip. The clubhouse welcomes you with a grand entrance, and just beyond it, the sparkling blue of the Caribbean Sea sets the perfect backdrop.
With temperatures sitting comfortably in the 20s (°C) and a refreshing breeze rolling in from the ocean, the weather was ideal for a day on the course.
The Course: Macana Club’s Seaside Challenge
Macana Club kicks off our six-course Caribbean golf adventure, and it’s hard to imagine a better introduction.
We started the round with some warm-up swings and a beautiful approach to the green. Lighthearted pressure between players made the game all the more fun but let’s be honest, we were more focused on the ocean views than perfect scores.
Key Highlights:
- Seaside holes: Absolutely breathtaking. These holes give the full “tropical golf” experience, with ocean winds adding a bit of challenge to each shot.
- Course conditions: Tee boxes, aprons, and greens on the back nine were in excellent shape. In fact, the back nine was in noticeably better condition than the front deeper fairways, smoother greens, and well-maintained roughs.

Real Moments on the Green
Let’s be honest our first few holes weren’t exactly highlight-reel material. We both played it a bit safe, trying to avoid bunkers and not overhit our approaches. A few chicken shots here and there, but hey, we’re warming up!
The wind added a whole other layer of complexity, especially around pins tucked away near edges. Still, moments of brilliance broke through a perfect chip, a clean iron shot, and yes, even a few solid putts.

A Promising Start to a Caribbean Golf Journey
The first course of the trip Macana Club has set the tone perfectly. Incredible views, excellent greens (especially on the back nine), and just the right level of challenge to get us excited for the week ahead.
